Other places I like.
In no particular order, here are some links I like.
http://www.userfriendly.org/
User Friendly is a fun e-comic that I check almost everyday. It will particularly resonate
with anyone involved in "computer resource management" or such ilks. (Caution! The humor in
this strip may often go over the heads of non-tech people.)
http://www.sluggy.com/
Sluggy Freelance is another e-comic. More geek oriented, rather than computer-geek
oriented, it is imaginative and usually very nicely illustrated. (Not to
mention outraguously funny at times.)
http://www.vansaircraft.com/
This is the Site of Vans Aircraft. They produce one of the most successful
kit aircraft lines (RV-3, RV-4, RV-6, RV-6A, RV-8(! I want!). These are planes people build in their garages, and which
outperform most factory built light aircraft.
http://www.aopa.org/
The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) is highly active in protecting
and promoting general aviation.
http://www.dagorhir.com/
This is the current web sight for Dagorhir, a freestyle medieval combat group. Unlike the
SCA, Dagorhir uses weapons that are padded to be safe, rather than sticks and armor.
http://acro.harvard.edu/IAC/iac_homepg.html
This is the page for the International Aerobatics Club. Aerobatics isn't just something
people watch at airshows. There are many small aerobatic competitions held thoughout the
country. The IAC is one of the best ways to get involved.
http://www.eaa.org/
Home page for the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA). This organization conducts
a wide range of activities, not the least of which is the EAA Oshkosh Flyin, one of the
biggest airshows around. For the Week of the Oshkosh Flyin, Wittman Field in Wisconsin becomes
the busiest airport in the world. with over 10,000 aircraft flying in and nearly over 800,000 visitors from
around the world.
In addition the EAA, like AOPA, is highly active in promoting and protecting general avaition.
http://www.kesmai.com/
Kesmai makes one of the best online games in existance: Air Warrior. While its graphics
aren't up to the latest standards, its flight modeling is excellent, and its multiplayer
environment needs to be experienced to be comprehended. This is as close to aerial combat
as your likely to come without actually being in a war.
http://www.lglass.com/
These people make Flight Unlimited. It's a really good aerobatic flight simulator, with
excellent graphics. Flying these aircraft is really pretty close to real life, except
you aren't experiencing G forces.
They also produced "Flight Unlimited II" and now produce "Flight Unlimited II", which
aren't aerobatic simulations any longer, but push into the MS Flight Simulator market. Hmmm...
